Summary: Methanol & Ethanol Department has been growing and developing its business portfolio and footprint in the Methanol and Ethanol industry. The Department has five key business segments as 1) North American Methanol Operation, 2) Latin American Methanol Operation, 3) Methanol Mikoshi Operation, 4) Ocean Logistics Operation, and 5) Ethanol Operation.
Expectation for the Assistant Marketing Manager is to act as a person in charge of Marketing/Sales for methanol distribution (as well as potentially other commodity which has synergy with methanol operation) in Americas, which includes management of the members for sales support/delivery aspects.
It is expected for the Assistant Marketing Manager to take a role and responsibility in strategic planning, quantitative & qualitative target achievement, supporting staff management (especially training), and internal control management (accounting, risk management) under the supervision of Managers for some assigned category/area.
US Sales and Marketing (60%) Main accountability is to earn profit by selling and marketing the Methanol in N.A. Details are as below;
a) credit management (includes selection of customers, risk evaluation and return analysis for conducting sales activity)
b) negotiation for the sales contracts (long term, spot (onetime))
c) monthly negotiation of the sales price in distribution accounts
d) reporting to management (regular reporting of the sales volume, profit, trends, industry info, etc.,)
e) managing performance of the sales contracts for achieving better profit (juggling volumes to achieve better net back, contract vs spot, profit evaluation based on market trends and inventory on hand, etc.)
f) team working (instructing/coaching/supervising the supporting staff for the accounting, invoicing, logistics, etc.)
Marketing and Sales Expansion project (20%): Expand the market reach to the new market (US Midwest etc.) seeking more opportunity for methanol as well as different commodity like Ethanol, which includes below;
a) Market Research
b) Logistics set up (storage, inland transportation)
c) Procurement from new sources
d) Sales (setting up new customers/contracts)
e) Optimization (Delivery system set up, including coordination/knowledge transfer for the staffs in overseas branch, etc.)
f) Compliance (risk management such as credit etc. as well as regulatory things. Researching, managing and fulfilling the requirements)
The Assistant Manager is expected to perform under supervision of Managers and reporting to them.
Logistics Operation (20%): Selecting, managing and operating the best logistics while minimizing the cost. Controlling inventory in distribution stock locations. This duty includes below:
a) Land transportation (rail / track freight) management;
to manage competitive arrangement by supervising operator. This includes negotiating tanks, freight contracts, designing railcar fleet which avoids idle time, etc.
b) Swap Operations:
Organize swaps in order to reduce costs
c) Manage delivery schedule: for minimizing shipping cost (freight, demurrage etc.) by managing inventory. This includes negotiation for the demurrage
o Computer skills including Excel, other Microsoft applications, marine data pages, railroad online sites.
o Knowledge of industry as well as relationship with co-producers in order to swap.
o Extensive contacts in methanol market and shipping industry, both suppliers and customers.
o Ability to be proactive/flexible (MUST think a few steps ahead) and quickly adapt in order to follow the market trends.
o Legal mind and basic knowledge for contracting.
o Financial basic knowledge for budget planning as well as its evaluation
o Detailed knowledge and sense for managing inventory and logistics.
